Elawalu Roti you can make in 10 minutes

Elawalu Roti (Vegetable Roti) is a short eats containing a spicy filling of onions, carrots, cabbage, leaks, and potatoes. This recipe is very simple to prepare and it only takes 10 minutes.

These are great for an afternoon teatime snack with some strong tea like Ginger Tea.

Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 3 crushed Garlic Cloves
  • Some Curry Leaves
  • 2 thinly sliced Green Chilies
  • 1 chopped Onion
  • 1 shredded Carrot
  • 1 Potato cut into strips
  • Some shredded Cabbage
  • Some sliced Leeks
  • 1 tsp of Pepper
  • 1 tbsp of Chili Flakes
  • Some Turmeric Powder
  • 1 tbsp of Raw Curry Powder
  • Salt
  • Some crushed Cardamom and Cloves
  • Some crushed Cinnamon

For the Dough

  • 300g of Flour
  • Salt
  • 2 tbsp of Coconut Oil

Instructions

For the Filling

  1. Heat some Oil in a saucepan.
  2. Add 3 crushed Garlic Cloves.
  3. Add some Curry Leaves.
  4. Add 2 thinly sliced Green Chilies.
  5. Add a chopped Onion.
  6. Mix everything together under medium heat.
  7. Add a shredded Carrot.
  8. Add a Potato cut into strips.
  9. Add some shredded Cabbage.
  10. Add some sliced Leeks and mix everything together thoroughly.
  11. Add 1 tsp of Pepper.
  12. Add 1 tbsp of Chili Flakes and some Turmeric Powder.
  13. While mixing everything, add 1 tbsp of Raw Curry Powder.
  14. Add Salt to taste.
  15. To make it tastier, add some crushed Cinnamon pieces, Cardamon, and Cloves.
  16. Mix everything together.
  17. Cook for about 2 minutes more.

For the Dough

  1. Add 300g of Flour to a bowl.
  2. Add Salt to taste.
  3. Add 2 tbsp of Coconut Oil and mix everything together.
  4. While adding Water slowly, mix by hand and form the dough.
  5. Cover the dough and let it rest for about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  6. Break apart the dough into smaller pieces.
  7. Now take each of the dough pieces and use a rolling pin to flatten it.
  8. Add some of the Vegetable filling to the middle.
  9. Now fold both sides.
  10. Now fold from the top and bottom sides.
  11. Heat some Oil in a saucepan.
  12. Cook each of the Elawalu Roti making sure to cook both sides.
