How to make Traditional Fish Ambul Thiyal the right way

There are many versions of the classic Sri Lankan dish Fish Ambul Thiyal. This is an authentic fish ambul thiyal recipe that is very traditional.

Fish Ambul Thiyal is very popular in Sri Lanka and the main ingredient of this recipe is Goraka that is used to preserve this dish.

Ingredients

  • 300g of Yellowfin tuna
  • 100g of Goraka
  • 2 tbsp of Ground Pepper
  • A piece of Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Some Curry Leaves
  • Some Pandan Leaves (Rampe)

Instructions

  1. Take 300g of Yellowfin Tuna and cut into square pieces and then set it aside to remove any Water.
  2. Then add 100g of Goraka.
  3. Add 2 tbsp of Ground Pepper.
  4. Add a piece of Cinnamon.
  5. Add Salt to taste.
  6. Now mix everything together by hand.
  7. Add some Curry Leaves to the bottom of a separate clay pot.
  8. Then add some long Pandan Leaves on top.
  9. Now add the Yellowfin Tuna.
  10. Now add some more Curry Leaves and Pandan Leaves on top.
  11. Now we will cook it over the lowest heat on a gas stove until all of the Water has evaporated.
