Making Indian style Chickpea Curry better using Tea

Many people have been asking me to make different variety of recipes so as I promised, here is an Indian style Chickpea Curry recipe. There is a tasty secret ingredient to this curry and that is Tea.

By adding tea to this curry, you are giving it a beautiful brown color that is very appetizing.

Ingredients

For the Curry

  • Some Ginger and some Garlic blended into a paste
  • 1 sliced Onion
  • 1 Dried Chili
  • 1 Bay Leaf
  • Some crushed Cardamom and Cloves
  • Some crushed Cinnamon
  • A Pandan Leaf (Rampe)
  • 2 Green Chilies
  • 300g of boiled Chickpeas
  • 2 tsp of Black Tea Powder
  • Some pieces of Coconut
  • Some Cumin Seeds
  • 1 tsp of Coriander Powder
  • 2 tsp of Chili Powder
  • Half a tsp of Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp of Garam Masala
  • 2 Boiled Potatoes that are mashed
  • Salt
  • Some chopped Coriander
  • Some Curry Leaves

For the Tempered Mixture

  • Half an Onion sliced.
  • Some Mustard Seeds.
  • 1 Dried Chili broken into smaller pieces by hand
  • 2 tsp of Chili Powder
  • Some Turmeric Powder

Instructions

  1. Heat some Oil in a saucepan.
  2. Blend some Ginger and some Garlic Cloves together to create a paste and then add it.
  3. Add 1 sliced Onion.
  4. Add 1 dried Chili.
  5. Add 1 Bay Leaf.
  6. Add some crushed Cardamom and Cloves.
  7. Add some crushed Cinnamon.
  8. Add a Pandan Leaf.
  9. Add 2 thinly sliced Green Chilies.
  10. Lightly fry everything together until it is a golden color.
  11. Add 2 tsp of Black Tea Powder to a bowl and then add Boiling Water.
  12. Let the Tea steep for about 2 minutes.
  13. After lightly frying, add some pieces of Coconut.
  14. Now add the Tea into the curry through a sieve.
  15. Add some Cumin Seeds.
  16. Add 1 tsp of Coriander Powder.
  17. Add 2 tsp of Chili Powder.
  18. Add half a tsp of Black Pepper.
  19. Add 1 tsp of Garam Masala.
  20. Mash 2 boiled Potatoes and add it.
  21. Add Salt to taste.
  22. Add 300g of boiled Chickpeas.
  23. Add some chopped Coriander.
  24. Add a Green Chili split in half.
  25. Heat some Oil in a separate saucepan.
  26. Add half an Onion sliced.
  27. Add some Mustard Seeds.
  28. Add a dried Chili broken into smaller pieces by hand.
  29. Lightly fry until it turns a golden color and then turn off the stove.
  30. Add 2 tsp of Chili Powder.
  31. Add some Turmeric Powder.
  32. Mix everything together.
  33. Add the mixture to the Chickpea Curry over low heat.
  34. Add some Curry Leaves.
