Mukulu is a popular snack for teatime in the Southern region of Sri Lanka. It is a traditional snack from Sri Lankan history.

Total Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients

  • 250g of grated Coconut (try to get a more wet grated Coconut)

  • 250g of All Purpose Flour
  • Salt
  • 150g of Sugar (adjust as you need)

Instructions

  1. Add 250g of grated Coconut into a bowl.
  2. Add 250g of All Purpose Flour into the bowl.
  3. Add Salt to taste.
  4. Now mix everything together. This will form clumps but will not form a dough.
  5. Keep mixing for about 5 minutes.
  6. Now add 150g of Sugar.
  7. Mix together and then we will form the shape of the Mukulu quickly before the Sugar starts to melt.
  8. Scoop some of the mixture into your hand and shape it into a ball.
  9. Then stretch a little bit from 4 sides of the ball to make a plus sign.
  10. Stretch a little bit of the top and bottom so each side has a piece sticking out.
  11. Deep fry each of the Mukulu over medium heat until it turns a golden color.
