Koradial, Traditional Sri Lankan Sweet that is easy to make
Koradial is a variety of traditional Sri Lankan Sweets that are soft and mushy. It is often made with either Sesame, Peanuts, Potatoes, or even Sago. In this recipe, we're making the Potato and Peanut Koradial.
Many people have not heard of this sweet but it is a popular sweet within the older generation in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka. This sweet is perfect for that afternoon tea.

Ingredients
Potato Koradial
- 250g of Rice Flour
- 350g of boiled Potatoes
- 350g of Sugar
- Sesame Seeds
- Crushed Cardamom
- Crushed Cloves
- Crushed Ginger
- Salt
Peanut Koradial
- 350g of Sugar
- 400g of roasted Peanuts
- Crushed Cardamom
- Crushed Cloves
- Salt
Instructions
Potato Koradial
- Boil 350g of Potatoes.
- After boiling, mash the Potatoes into a chunky mixture.
- Toast 250g of Rice Flour in a saucepan.
- Toast some Sesame Seeds in a saucepan.
- Heat 1 tbsp of the 350g of Sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
- When the Sugar starts to brown, add half a cup of Water. We want this syrup to have a light color.
- Add the remaining Sugar and stir frequently.
- When this syrup starts boiling, add Salt to taste.
- Add the mashed Potatoes.
- Add some crushed Cardamom.
- Add some crushed Cloves.
- Add some crushed Ginger.
- Stir frequently.
- Now add the toasted Rice Flour and stir frequently.
- When this mixture has thickened, add the toasted Sesame Seeds.
- Turn the heat down to low.
- Stir frequently until it feels heavy to the spoon and then turn off the stove.
- Rub the inside of a baking pan with Coconut Oil.

Cover the inside of the baking pan with parchment paper.
- Rub some Coconut Oil on the parchment paper.
- Pour the mixture into the baking pan and spread it evenly using a spoon.
- Let the mixture cool down and set.
- Put the Koradial on a preparation board by lifting the parchment paper.
- Cut the Koradial into smaller square pieces.
Peanut Koradial
- Blend 200g of roasted Peanuts into a coarse texture.
- Heat 1 tbsp of the 350g of Sugar in a saucepan over medium heat.
- When the Sugar starts to brown, add half a cup of Water. We want this syrup to have a darker color.
- Add the remaining Sugar and stir frequently.
- Add some Salt.
- Add 200g of the roasted Peanuts and 200g of the blended roasted Peanuts.
- Add some crushed Ginger.
- Add some crushed Cardamom.
- Add some crushed Cloves.
- Stir frequently over low heat.
- When the mixture has thickened and it feels heavy to the spoon, turn off the stove.
- Rub a baking tray with Coconut Oil.
- Pour this mixture into the baking tray.
- Shape the mixture into a large square shape (do this before the mixture hardens).
- Once the mixture has hardened, cut it into smaller pieces.
