Siniwadichchi Coconut Drink, a Sri Lankan Traditional Energy Drink
Siniwadichchi is a special drinkable food made from King Coconut and is used as an energy drink for strength or a welcome drink for guests in Southern regions of Sri Lanka. It is considered a complete meal because it is very filling. This energy drink contains both the Water, the Coconut Meat, and a special type of hard biscuit like rusks.
In the old days, people would add a popular grape soda called Necto into this drink to make it colorful but in this recipe, we're using a much healthier option by adding Watermelon instead. Another idea is to soak Butterfly Pea Flowers in Water to make the Water colorful and then add it to this drink.
Siniwadichichi contains Sri Lankan hard biscuits or bread like Butter Wiskothu, Hulan Wiskothu, or Wiskirigngna. Some people would even add Rice Flakes (Habala Pethi) or Oats. Since we were not able to find these, we used hard bread like Rusks. Although we added these ingredients to a separate bowl, you can even just make it inside the King Coconut if you want.
Siniwadichchi has many names in Sri Lanka including Silawadichchi, Silachchi, Pani Kurumba, Panibamba, Paniwadichchi.
