How to make Boondi Laddo, a popular Indian Sweet

Boondi Laddo is a soft melt in your mouth sweet made from Gram Flour that is very simple to make requiring only a few ingredients. It is a very popular sweet in India. In this recipe, we're adding the natural color by using Turmeric Powder.

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 300g of Gram Flour
  • 250g of Sugar
  • Salt
  • Crushed Cardamom
  • Turmeric Powder
  • 50g of chopped Peanuts
  • Chopped Cashews (optional)
  • 1.5 tbsp of Ghee

Instructions

  1. Sieve 300g of Gram Flour into a bowl.
  2. Add Salt to taste.
  3. While adding lukewarm Water, a little at a time, mix and form a runny batter that does not have any clumps.
  4. Heat some Oil in a saucepan that we will be using to fry the Boondi.
  5. Deep fry the Boondi by adding small sized droplets (size of a penny) of it into the hot Oil through a strainer spoon or piping bag.
  6. Add the fried Boondi into a bowl.
  7. Now heat 1 cup of Water over medium heat.
  8. Add 250g of Sugar.
  9. Add Salt to taste.
  10. Add some crushed Cardamom.
  11. Add some Turmeric Powder.
  12. Stir frequently until the Sugar has melted and the mixture is bubbling.
  13. Now turn off the stove and let the mixture cool down a little.
  14. Add the fried Boondi into the mixture.
  15. Turn the stove to medium heat.
  16. Mix thoroughly.
  17. Add 50g of chopped Peanuts.
  18. Add some chopped Cashews (optional)
  19. Keep stirring until all of the liquid has evaporated and you have a thick mixture that clumps together.
  20. Turn off the stove.
  21. Add 1.5 tbsp of Ghee.
  22. Mix thoroughly.
  23. Turn off the stove and let the Laddo mixture cool down a little.
  24. Scoop some of the mixture into your hands and shape it into a Laddo shape.
