Kithul Bada Curry is a curry made from the Kithul Tree's stem. This is a rare recipe not many people know about but it was an important curry for our ancestors in Sri Lanka. Kithul Bada Curry is good for cooling your body and reducing body heatyness. It was also given for almsgiving to Monks. Kithul Bada Curry was an important of the King's Menu.

Although many people eat Green Beans or Carrot curries these days, Kithul Bada curry would be one of the main curries that would have been served by our ancestors. Kithul Stem is a main meal for elephants.

Ingredients

  • Kithul Stem
  • Toasted Fenugreek Seeds
  • Half a teaspoon of Pepper
  • Turmeric Powder
  • Chili Powder
  • Salt
  • Curry Leaves
  • Pandan Leaves
  • Sliced Green Chili
  • Thinly sliced Onion
  • Coconut Milk
  • Tamarind Seed

Instructions

  1. Wash the Kithul Stem thoroughly.
  2. Cut it into small pieces. We cut it in half and then cut it into slices and add it into a bowl of Water to prevent discoloring.
  3. Add some toasted Fenugreek Seeds to a pot.
  4. Add half a teaspoon of Pepper.
  5. Add some Turmeric Powder.
  6. Add some Chili Powder.
  7. Add Salt to taste.
  8. Add some Curry Leaves.
  9. Add some Pandan Leaves.
  10. Add a sliced Green Chili.
  11. Add a thinly sliced Onion.
  12. Add the Kithul pieces.
  13. Add Coconut Milk until everything is covered.
  14. Stir this mixture.
  15. Add a Tamarind Seed.
  16. Cook over medium heat until the Curry Gravy is to the consistency you want.
