Healthy and Delicious Kidaran Ala Pancakes
Kidaran Ala is a tuber that comes from a tropical plant native to Southeast Asia. This purple colored plant blooms around the rainy season and when fully bloomed, it gives off a pungent smell. The tuber that is produced from this plant is called Elephant Foot Yam in English.
Many people do not know how to cook Kidaran Ala. It is simple. Wash and remove the peel and then cut it into small pieces. Then simply add the pieces into a pot, add Water to cover the Kidaran Ala pieces, and then boil until all of the Water has evaporated. It goes great with Pol Sambol or Lunu Miris. Kidaran Ala comes in several varieties and some varieties such as Wild Kidaran Ala, you should not eat.
Although in this savory pancake recipe, we did not add any meat to the filling, you can add Chicken or Fish which will make it tastier.
One of the most popular singers of Sri Lanka, H. R. Jothipala, has a song that mentions Kidaran Ala called "Sal Sapu Na Nil Manel".
